Preparing your Pelvic Floor for Birth
Your pelvic floor plays a powerful role during pregnancy, birth, and recovery. Preparing these muscles before labour helps your body work with you, not against you. Learning how to relax, strengthen, and control your pelvic floor can support your baby’s descent during birth, reduce the risk of tearing or trauma, ease pushing and improve comfort in labour and promote faster postpartum recovery.
This 2-hour workshop add-on is designed to complement the Constellations Prenatal Childbirth Preparation Course by diving deeper into the pelvic health perspective of birth preparation. Led by a pelvic floor physiotherapist, this workshop will provide practical, evidence-informed strategies to support labour, delivery, and the early postpartum recovery period.
The focus will be on helping participants understand their pelvic floor, optimize biomechanics, and learn hands-on techniques that support both vaginal and cesarean births. Expect an interactive, supportive session with time to practice skills and ask questions.
By the end of this session, participants will:
Understand the role of the pelvic floor during pregnancy, labour, and recovery.
Gain practical tools for perineal massage, pushing strategies, and pelvic floor relaxation.
Learn how to optimize hip mobility and labour positions to support progress and reduce risk of perineal injury
Explore early postpartum recovery strategies (0–12 weeks) tailored to both vaginal and C-section births.
Leave with confidence in how to care for their pelvic floor during this critical transition.
